Clearance
Clearing a garage: tools, tyres, used oil
At some point the car no longer fits. Over the years, garages become storage for tools, garden furniture, tyres and renovation leftovers. Clearing them brings together items that must be disposed of in very different ways.
Sort first
Before anything is taken away, decide what stays: tools you still need, seasonal tyres, garden equipment. These items go to a marked spot so they are not taken by mistake.
If the garage belongs to a shared property or is used by others, it should be clear beforehand which items belong to whom.
What needs special disposal
Garages often contain substances that do not belong in bulky waste. Used oil, brake fluid, paints, varnishes and solvents are hazardous waste; old tyres and car batteries are also returned separately.
Unknown canisters and bottles are not opened or decanted, but secured as they are and sent to the appropriate disposal route.
- Used oil, brake fluid and fuel residues
- Paints, varnishes and solvents
- Old tyres and car batteries
- Power tools and appliances
On clearance day
Ideally the car is parked elsewhere beforehand and the driveway is free. The removal vehicle can then stand right in front of the door.
At the end the garage is empty and swept clean. Whether shelving stays or is dismantled too is agreed in advance.
