Wallpapering
Wallpapering alcoves, corners and reveals
Continuous, well-prepared wall surfaces are usually easier to wallpaper than angled areas. The real craftsmanship shows at corners, window reveals and alcoves. Clean joints and an application suited to the surface shape the overall look.
Inside and outside corners
Walls are rarely exactly plumb. That is why a length is not pasted flat into an inside corner but split: one part runs just round the corner, and the next length is started again on a plumb line.
At outside corners, the wallpaper is taken a few centimetres round the edge and only cut afterwards. A seam right on the edge is under more stress and can come loose more easily.
Reveals and alcoves
Window reveals can be wallpapered or simply painted. Painted reveals are easier to maintain and cope better with condensation at the window.
Radiator alcoves are either papered behind the radiator as far as can be reached, or deliberately just painted. That should be decided in advance, since taking a radiator off is a separate step.

- Radiator alcoves
- Sloping ceilings and dormers
- Projections, pillars and boxing
What this means for planning
Each alcove and reveal takes time, often more than a whole smooth wall. For a realistic quote they are therefore listed individually.
With patterned wallpaper, these spots also need more material, because the pattern should match across every corner.
