Site visit before a renovation: good questions

By TF Clean 2 min read

During a site visit, the contractor looks at the rooms and you get to know the company. With the right questions, the visit leads to a clear, comparable quote without surprises later.

What is looked at on site

The visit is about the condition of the walls and ceilings, cracks, damp and old coverings. Also show areas hidden behind furniture or pictures; that is often where the bigger damage is.

It helps if you have roughly sorted your wishes already: which rooms, what result, by when. You can bring colour samples or wallpaper ideas along.

Questions worth asking

Many later misunderstandings can be avoided with a few questions. Above all, it is about what is included in the quote and what is not.

  • Are covering, materials and disposal included in the price?
  • Who moves or carries out the furniture, and who does the final clean?
  • How long will the work take and when can I use the rooms?
  • What happens if damage turns up under the wallpaper?
  • Who is my contact during the work?

Understanding the quote

A good quote lists the work item by item, room by room: filling, priming, painting, wallpapering, doors, final clean. That shows you what is included and lets you compare quotes from different firms fairly.

Lump sums such as “renovate flat” without individual items are hard to check. In that case, ask for a breakdown.
